catching senioritis

My dear friends,

We're getting to the halfway mark of the quarter. Week five out of ten starts next week and I couldn't be coming down with a worse case of senioritis. This is my last quarter of classes at Cal Poly. After March, I'll be completing an internship and finishing up an online course.

Let's just hope I can keep my head in the books until then!!

Kristin's visit to San Luis was fabulous. We did lunch at Big Sky (they have an amazing salad with grilled romaine lettuce, bleu cheese, apples and some kind of vinaigrette. DELISH.) and then napped back at the apartment. On Saturday, we went to Avila and took a walk on the beach.

We spotted a starfish on one of the rocks! Kristin was in love with it.

We also touched some of those squishy sea anemones.

She spent some time with other friends last night, so I went to a dance performance with my friend, Anieca (who's engaged!!!). Afterward, I hosted a Catch Phrase game night at my apartment.

Now it's time to ignore my urge to be lazy all day and actually get some studying done. Senioritis, you're killing me.

Hope everyone's weekend was wonderful.

xoxoxoxo!

braveheart

Dear friends,

Have you ever had trouble being brave?

"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer."

So says Ralph Waldo Emerson on the label of my tea packet. With graduation FAST approaching, I've been trying to get the next couple months of my life in order. There are many decisions to make and so many wonderful opportunities presenting themselves to me.

Please cross your fingers and pray for me that I'll be brave enough to make the right decisions as the right opportunities come along.

I never got around to posting train track photos... Maybe I will this weekend.

I hope everyone has a lovely Saturday and Sunday. Kristin's in town visiting! We're on our way to lunch.

xoxo!

pure genius vs. pure laziness

p.s. How clever is this: an artist in London finds pieces of gum in the street and turns them into works of art! Check out how detailed his art is on the tiny pieces of gum. Pure awesome.

(via Cup of Jo)

p.p.s. Maybe I won't be lazy this Sunday and I'll take some pretty pictures. I walk over train tracks every day to get to school and have been meaning to take pictures of them. Today may be the day!

back to reality

Dear friends,

After a GORGEOUS, 75 degree weather weekend and a fabulous camping trip, I'm facing the reality of going back to school tomorrow.

Boo.

Thank goodness I have some company:

Sam and Robbie. What a pair.

two loves

My friends,

I'm going to do what I do best when it's time to do homework: procrastinate.

I want to share with you a wonderful photo of the two things I love most in the world:

My Becca and my Robbie. Together.

After dating Robbie for more than a year, I've finally gotten around to introducing him to my best friend, Becca.

Over Christmas break, Robbie came up to Riverside and met Becca. Then the three of us got to spend even MORE time together when Becca came to visit last week.

All's well in the world of Nikol.

Time to get cracking on my Mustang Daily articles...

xoxo!

new year, new changes

Lovely friends,

Winter quarter started and quite a few things have changed...

I'm back in action at the Mustang Daily and so far, so good. I'm determined to get a good grade in that class. My roommate last quarter, Kristin, has graduated and moved out. I miss her dearly but I have a new roommate, Lindsey, and she's pretty wonderful also! Taco Tuesdays will now be spent with Brett, Kat, Kat and Clay instead of Kristin. I've also made some new years resolutions INCLUDING stopping my nail biting habit. Gross. And I want to blog more often.

Aside from the changes around here, we had a couple of visitors this weekend in San Luis Obispo. Becca, my bestest friend from back home, came through SLO on her way back to school in Oregon. (Check out her blog from when she went to Ghana last year) We went downtown with Brett, Kat and the gang Thursday night and spend Friday doing close to nothing. Kimberly, Brett's cousin, also came to visit this weekend.

Here's a picture of all that is Becca:

2011 is going to be a year full of changes. Many of my friends and I are graduating this year and after that we'll be entering the working world (hopefully!). I'm looking forward to seeing all of the positive opportunities that will be presenting themselves to my friends and family in the upcoming months.

Good luck to all and I'm crossing my fingers that 2011 treats us even better than 2010.

xoxo

p.s. Here's a 2010 recap:

Barack Obama began serving as our president. I love Michelle.

Lots of weddings!! My cousin, Tiffany, got married (here are photos from her bachelorette party- penis straws and all) and so did my sister, Page.

I turned 21!!

Did some traveling...

and practiced my photography skills.
